About the Isabel

Welcome to Queen’s University’s award-winning Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, a beautiful venue with exceptional acoustics that opened in September 2014. The Isabel presents locally, nationally, and internationally acclaimed artists on its presentation series and festivals, and is the home for many university and community concerts, festivals, conferences, and events. The Isabel is a 90,000 square foot performing arts centre that houses a world class concert hall, studio theatre, recital hall, film screening room, art and media lab, production studios, and classrooms. It is the rehearsal and performance home of Queen’s DAN School of Drama and Music and the home of Department of Film and Media. The Isabel was designed by Oslo/New York-based firm Snøhetta and Ottawa’s N45, with acoustics and theatre design by ARUP and Theatre Projects Consultants. Anchored by a transformational gift to the Initiative Campaign from Drs. Alfred and Isabel Bader, the Isabel was inspired by the Bader’s love – of the arts, of Queen’s, and of each other – and is named in Isabel’s honour.
